Review: SunbeamTech Twister 120

Review: SunbeamTech Twister 120

created for

We are very excited to have the latest product from SunbeamTech in the house. We have had the company in the corner of our eyes for a good while. SunbeamTech has been in business since 2000 and has been just shy of being an enthusiast household name. The name really started sinking in when SunbeamTech spun off with the Tuniq line of CPU coolers. The Tuniq line quickly took the CPU cooling crown and held for quiet some time.

SunbeamTech recently released the Twister 120 which is the cooler we will be reviewing today. The Twister 120 is SunbeamTech's next shot at the cooling crown. SunbeamTech was never shy to be innovative in their designs and approach to technology.

The newly released Twister 120 by SunbeamTech follows this tradition. The Twister 120 comes with the traditional 6 heatpipe design but SunbeamTech decided to beef them up a little bit by making 8mm thick instead of the usual 6mm. Yes 8mm, these are literally pipes coming out of the cooler base.

SunbeamTech did not stop here. The Twister 120 also implements a dual fan setup. We have seen that before but SunbeamTech does it with a Twist. The two fans spin in counter rotation. One fan spins clockwise and the other spins counter clockwise. If you are into Aerodynamics a little bit you might just had a bell ringing, correct .. Turbine. The counter rotational spinning of the fans accelerates the airflow through the heatsink just like it would in a turbine. This allows the use of slower spinning fans and achieves the same cooling performance. In theory anyway. We will take it to the test.

Sunbeam Twister 120

Manufacturer Description:

The TWISTER 120 incorporates our newest ISO-Turbo Technology for increased cooling. The dual 120mm MFDB fan spins in opposite direction which allows for more concentrated airflow, combined with the three 8mm heat pipes and large fin area, the TWISTER 120 offers one of the best cooling capabilities in its class.

To ensure that the maximum cooling performance is obtained, we have also included our highest performing thermal compound, the TX-4. Furthermore, We also provide The Rheosmart Fan Controller. This “Smart Cooling System” operates in two different modes; when connected to a PWM-enabled motherboard, you can allow the system to auto-adjust fan speed through the motherboard’s temperature sensor. When switched into manual mode by pressing the small button below each knob, you turn that specific channel into manual control mode.
